Stanley the Prairie Gopher – his story
Some travellers stick to the itinerary.
Stanley has never met an itinerary he couldn’t derail.
Born on the wide-open plains of Southern Alberta, Stanley grew up exploring fence lines, backroads, roadside attractions, and every curious place that caught his attention. His natural curiosity quickly earned him a reputation for appearing exactly where nobody expected him to be.
And usually where the fun was happening.
Like the prairie gopher he represents, Stanley is small, quick, energetic, and impossible to ignore for long. One minute he’s gone. The next minute he’s discovered a roadside diner, a giant roadside attraction, a community festival, or a scenic lookout nobody else noticed.
His friends have learned a simple truth.
If Stanley suddenly says, “Let’s check that out,” the schedule is about to change.
Usually for the better.
Stanley believes the best travel memories are rarely planned. They’re found in unexpected places between destinations. A small-town fair. An ice cream stand. A quirky museum. A local celebration. A photo opportunity that turns into an afternoon of laughter.
While some riders focus on reaching their destination, Stanley focuses on enjoying the journey.
Every stop is an opportunity.
Every detour is an adventure.
Every day should include at least one story worth telling.
His dream is simple.
To discover every fun roadside attraction, hidden gem, and unexpected stop Alberta has to offer.
Because Stanley knows something many travellers forget.
The places you remember most are often the ones you never intended to visit.
As one of the Animals of Rumble, Stanley represents curiosity, spontaneity, and the joy of discovering something unexpected around the next bend.
If you meet Stanley on the road, don’t be surprised if your quick fuel stop turns into a two-hour adventure.
He’ll probably find something worth seeing.
And somehow, you’ll be glad he did.
Stanley’s Motto
“The best adventures start with an unplanned stop.”
