Al “Albertasaurus” – his story

Some riders collect miles.

Al collects stories.

Long before motorcycles rolled across Alberta’s highways, before railways crossed the Prairies, and before towns appeared on maps, Albertasaurus was already wandering what would someday become Canada’s Wild Rose Province.

At least, that’s what he claims.

Nobody has ever managed to prove him wrong.

Known simply as “Al” to his friends, Albertasaurus is the unofficial keeper of Alberta’s memories. Part fossil legend, part road-trip guide, and part campfire storyteller, Al has dedicated his life to making sure the stories of the province aren’t forgotten.

You’ll find him anywhere history lives.

Ghost towns tucked away on forgotten backroads.

Old trading posts overlooking river valleys.

Coal mines, homesteads, fur-trade routes, and military trails.

If there’s a story buried beneath the dirt, Al will find it.

And if he finds it, he’ll probably tell you all about it.

Al believes every road in Alberta leads somewhere important. Sometimes it’s a famous landmark. Sometimes it’s a tiny museum run by volunteers. Sometimes it’s a weathered cemetery overlooking an abandoned settlement.

To Al, every one of those places matters.

His greatest frustration is watching travellers rush from one destination to the next without ever stopping to discover the stories hidden along the way.

“Slow down,” he’ll tell them.

“The road has something to teach you.”

When he isn’t leading riders through the Badlands or exploring ancient fossil beds, Al can usually be found around a campfire with a mug of black coffee, sharing tales about pioneers, dinosaurs, railway builders, Indigenous history, military heritage, and the communities that shaped Alberta.

His dream is simple:

Keep Alberta’s stories alive.

Because Al knows something many travellers forget.

The landscapes are beautiful.

The stories are what make them unforgettable.

As one of the Animals of Rumble, Albertasaurus represents the curious explorers who never stop learning, who pull over to read the interpretive sign, who visit the little museum on Main Street, and who understand that every ride becomes richer when you know the history beneath your wheels.

What starts as a five-minute stop might become a two-hour history lesson.

And somehow, you’ll enjoy every minute of it.
